I met and started training with Tom Weaver in January of 2006 at Universal Athletic Club. I had completed my first marathon about three months before and wanted to improve my time for the next one. While training for my first marathon, I used a traditional routine of slowly building up my distances through running several times a week. I did no weight training for my legs and little upper body work. I thought that just running would get me to reach my goals. My time in the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon was 4 four and 58 minutes. While I was elated to finish and receive a medal, I wanted to do better next time.
Tom introduced me to 'high intensity training.' The concept is to lift maximum weight to maximum
repetitions while utilizing negative resistance. Tom instructed me on form and pushed me to make a full effort. As a high school and college athlete, I always lifted weight but got mixed results. I never thought of myself as strong or that my muscle tone and physique looked like someone who spent much time in the weight room.
The first few weeks of high intensity training was a shock to my body. I actually vomited several times. My body adjusted though and the results were amazing. I was lifting more weight than ever before. During the summer, I ran a few local 5-mile races and saw my times improve along with my strength and stamina. I also was running injury free.
After months of training, I was ready for the Marine Corps Marathon in 2006. I crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 12 minutes. I shaved 46 minutes off my time in just a year. It felt great to have that Marine put a medal around my neck.
I would recommend Tom to anyone who wants to improve themselves. He is a trainer, a guru, nutrition authority and positive influence that truly cares about his clients.

My name is Dave Cipalla and have been working out on and off since about 16 years old. I was a collegiate athlete in Basketball and always found it quite easy to maintain and stay in great shape. Now 35 years old I have found out that it takes discipline and a little effort as my metabolism is starting to slow down. Tom Weaver, with his very unique personal training techniques, as well as his knowledge of how the body works has helped me to change my body into fat burning machine! I work out with him once a week and continue to bounce new ideas, and use him as a valuable resource to be able to continue to be in the best shape of my life. Even trainers need trainers of their own. So as Tom's personal trainer, I always try to push him to unknown limits. He is always enthusiastic about learning new routines that will both expand his knowledge and motivate his own clients. Tom exhibits a passion for a solid, challenging workout. If he can train hardcore with me, you can be sure your workout with him will be just as vigorous. Kudos to Tom as he is an excellent "student" and "teacher."
